Where do you live (City, State, or Country)? St. James, NY
Your script stood out among hundreds of others. What was the inspiration for your story and why did you write a script instead of a short story or a novel? Frustration over the red tape one must endure and the government bureaucracy one has to fight to get what’s rightfully yours. Screenplays are visual like dreams are. And that’s what films are – dreams with a story. More so than a short story or novel.
How long did it take you to write your script...and what is your writing process? Do you outline...use index cards...white board...or just start with FADE IN? It took me six months to write after a thorough outline was handwritten on a legal pad.
What is your ultimate ambition as a writer? To write about the human condition and the story that takes our hero on to his/her journey to success or failure and a lesson learned.
Was your entry at The Wiki Screenplay Contest a full script or “the first ten pages”? Why did you make that choice? The hero’s journey is not a guessing game. The whole story must be told.
What’s your all-time favorite movie or television show...and why? “Angels with dirty faces.” The protagonist, who’s heading down the wrong path, makes the ultimate sacrifice as he faces death row for the sake of several misguided teens and others like them. That’s story telling with solid character growth.
What advice do you have for writers hoping to win a contest or place as a finalist as you have? Write from your soul about a hero or heroes in search of the truth that will eventually lead to fulfilment.
What else are you working on that the world needs to know about? Redemption. A woman, who’s lost her daughter because of her mistakes, changes her identity so she can find a befriended, dying woman’s abducted daughter.
