Where do you live (City, State, or Country)? Ocean Shores, WA USA
Your script stood out among hundreds of others. What was the inspiration for your story and why did you write a script instead of a short story or a novel? H2O was inspired by some of my adventures when I was in my formative years. It was also inspired by City of Ember, Hunger Games, Super 8, Lord of the Flies, Road Warrior, Hugo, Eloise, War of the Buttons, 12 Monkeys, Oliver!, Logan's Run, The Village, and Sir James Barrie's Legend of the Lost Boys.
How long did it take you to write your script...and what is your writing process? Do you outline...use index cards...white board...or just start with FADE IN? I got the whole episode down in writing in just a couple of days. Then I worked on it for nearly a year thereafter. I’m an organic writer, so I usually just dive in, having worked on the story in my head for a while before.
What is your ultimate ambition as a writer? To not become the van Gogh of screenwriters.
Was your entry at The Wiki Screenplay Contest a full script or “the first ten pages”? Why did you make that choice? Full script. I’m happy with all of it for the moment.
What’s your all-time favorite movie or television show...and why? I have so many. I love The Time Traveler’s Wife (book, film, series) and also the series, The Americans.
What advice do you have for writers hoping to win a contest or place as a finalist as you have? Write from your heart -- it’s the only thing you can control.
What else are you working on that the world needs to know about? I’m developing a feature near and dear to my heart as well as a half-hour sci-fi series.
