Where do you live (City, State, or Country)? Born and raised in New Yawk City, and still live there.
Your script stood out among hundreds of others. What was the inspiration for your story and why did you write a script instead of a short story or a novel? Son of an immigrant, I grew up on NYC’s West Side, which was a very different kind of neighborhood back then (think West Side Story without the pirouettes). I didn’t realize it at the time, but the area was a tremendous source of stories and characters.
How long did it take you to write your script...and what is your writing process? Do you outline...use index cards...white board...or just start with FADE IN? The first ten pages about 2-3 weeks. Still working on the rest. Sometimes a potential title just pops into my mind unbidden and I work backwards from there. A broad outline is in my head and then I just start writing, followed by many, many changes and edits.
What is your ultimate ambition as a writer? Of course, to get produced and maybe having a (speaking) role in it.
Which film or television writers inspire you? Why? I don’t know about film or t.v. writers, but I’ve always enjoyed authors like Carl Hiaasen and the late Elmore Leonard who can weave dark humor and spot-on dialogue into an intricate, exciting tale.
What’s your all-time favorite movie or television show? No absolute favorite. Lately, I’ve been watching a lot of t.v. shows from the 1960s -- The Fugitive, Star Trek, Combat, et al. Some episodes are still among the best one hours worth of entertainment.
What advice do you have for writers hoping to win a contest or place as a finalist as you have? Gone With the Wind was rejected 38 times before finding a publisher. Hang in there.
What else are you working on that the world needs to know about? A t.v. pilot, Goldilocks Garbage Collectors, was a quarter finalist at Wiki and a semi-finalist elsewhere. Still fine-tuning that. Also, playing with a murder mystery novel that takes place in ancient Babylon.
