Where do you live (City, State, or Country)? Venice Beach, CA
Your script stood out among hundreds of others. What was the inspiration for your story and why did you write a script instead of a short story or a novel? I have written short stories and even a novel. This particular story is heavy on the action, which is why I thought it best as an episodic TV show format. The story begins with a traveler returning to his hometown and was inspired by my own homesickness, as I come up upon my tenth year of adventuring.
How long did it take you to write your script...and what is your writing process? Do you outline...use index cards...white board...or just start with FADE IN? This is, I believe, my sixth draft of the pilot. I like to take some time between drafts, not just to get notes from different people, but to see how I am growing as both an artist and a man.
What is your ultimate ambition as a writer? I wanna show young dudes everywhere that you can be emotionally vulnerable, while at the same time being a bad motherfucker.
Was your entry at The Wiki Screenplay Contest a full script or “the first ten pages”? Why did you make that choice? I decided to go full script because I was interested in the feed back Wiki would give me on my project as a whole
What’s your all-time favorite movie or television show...and why? Who could possibly answer this? Seriously? Are there people in this world who are able to choose JUST one TV Show or movie as a favorite? I can tell you what show I admire most, and that’s Scrubs. Consistently hilarious, yet still able to reduce a grown man to tears. I strive to do the same.
What advice do you have for writers hoping to win a contest or place as a finalist as you have? Never stop fightin.
What else are you working on that the world needs to know about? I have a feature that I wrote with my best friend. We’re like Affleck and Damon, if they didn’t catch a break until their mid 30s.
