Where do you live (City, State, or Country)? New York, New York
Your script stood out among hundreds of others. What was the inspiration for your story and why did you write a script instead of a short story or a novel? My friend Santo came up with the funny idea of a neighborhood Scratch Off King and I made the hero a man of color and added the gentrification theme. I would like to write short stories and novels one day but I’m not yet studied in prose writing.
How long did it take you to write your script...and what is your writing process? Do you outline...use index cards...white board...or just start with FADE IN? Santo came up with the premise. It took me 2-3 weeks to final draft. I had the basic structure from Santo’s idea and then built the scenes and characters around it via outline. I use cards for features but I didn’t for “Scratch Off”.
What is your ultimate ambition as a writer? I’d like to have at least 2 series on at the same time and win either an Academy Award or Emmy.
Was your entry at The Wiki Screenplay Contest a full script or “the first ten pages”? Why did you make that choice? It was a full short screenplay.
What’s your all-time favorite movie or television show...and why? Tough question. I could narrow movies down to top 50. TV shows… FX’s “Fargo”, “Homeland”, “1883”, and I’m looking forward to season 4 of “True Detective”.
What advice do you have for writers hoping to win a contest or place as a finalist as you have? Keep writing. It’s all practice. You will get better. Keep writing, rewriting, and finishing scripts to their end and keep entering contests.
What else are you working on that the world needs to know about? I’ve written 2 features, a limited series bible, and a treatment for a feature that I am pitching.
