ANDREW EDMUNDS
Where do you live (City, State, or Country)?
Richmond, Virginia Your script stood out among hundreds of others. What was the inspiration for your story and why did you write a script instead of a short story or a novel? I was intrigued by two back to back stories that came out in the same news cycle on October 24, 2018. #1 - a sloppy domestic terrorist tried to send several poorly-constructed pipe bombs through the US Mail targeting perceived political enemies; Pelosi, Schumer etc. The plot was immediately foiled. #2 - a single winning $1.6 Billion lottery ticket was sold in SC… the winner had not yet come forward. I immediately thought: What if the dude who had mailed the pipe bombs, had actually been the same person who bought the winning ticket the next morning after he mailed the bombs. Oops. I decided to write a screenplay instead of a short story or a novel because I am a film commissioner 😊 How long did it take you to write your script...and what is your writing process? Do you outline...use index cards...white board...or just start with FADE IN? You know I’ve been thinking about this question. About a week for the original short of 16 pages, another 2 weeks-about 3 years later to expand it into a 100 page feature, then about a year of rewrites and editing. But really, about 50 years. A lot of my points of view about many things are in this story. Process? Got Final Draft and started typing. What is your ultimate ambition as a writer? To make movies with people I love. Was your entry at The Wiki Screenplay Contest a full script or “the first ten pages”? Why did you make that choice? I had a full script, so that’s what I sent. What’s your all-time favorite movie or television show...and why? Favorite movie…. Fargo Favorite television show… Breaking Bad Because they do not insult the intelligence of an audience, and the style of humor appeals to me. What advice do you have for writers hoping to win a contest or place as a finalist as you have? I have no idea. Have a good story and write dialogue that actually sounds like how people actually talk. What else are you working on that the world needs to know about?
