ROGER HILL
![]() Where do you live (City, State, or Country)?
Tennessee Your script stood out among hundreds of others. What was the inspiration for your story and why did you write a script instead of a short story or a novel? It started when I met a Hispanic lady who became a friend of mine. She was working in small low budget film work and I began to wonder - now If I was writing something that she could star in… She was the inspiration for Captain Connie Moreno, the real star of my script, Lee-Lee. The steady determined police woman who never thought for a moment that she was in, what was back then, a man’s world. On Connies desk name plate “Captain Connie Moreno” was adorned with a post-it note saying “and don’t you forget it” put there by her close associate and police station comedian, Sam Kindabee. But under the humor everybody knows you don’t mess with Connie. How long did it take you to write your script...and what is your writing process? Do you outline...use index cards...white board...or just start with FADE IN? I had the idea for the story for years but I never started to work on it until about 3months ago. I had never written a script before so the process was a jumble of ideas and chaotic re-writes, stepping back and letting it cook, then trying again. What is your ultimate ambition as a writer? Just to entertain. That’s all. Was your entry at The Wiki Screenplay Contest a full script or “the first ten pages”? Why did you make that choice? Full script. I didn’t consciously make that choice but as characters and sub-plots came, they needed to be developed so it suddenly grew into a feature. What’s your all-time favorite movie or television show...and why? I love horror writers like Frank Herbert and Stephen King and film makers like Spielberg and Hitchcock. I like to be entertained. Favorite all time movie would have to be Melodie En Sous-Sol with Alain Delon. Classic vintage movie with a great ending. What advice do you have for writers hoping to win a contest or place as a finalist as you have? I’m a novice myself so I can’t give in depth advice to anyone. But what I’ve learned so far is that if you are asking people to trust you and invest their time in your story, you need to reward them for it. Make it as interesting as you would want it to be if you were reading it. What else are you working on that the world needs to know about? I’m actually a songwriter and some of my work can be found at the site below. As far as scripts, maybe Connie Moreno has more adventures? Maybe something completely different? In any event, some new reality is waiting to be invented! Hmm, wait, I’ve got an idea… https://mostlikelymusic.com/ |
