Where do you live (City, State, or Country)? Gloucester, Massachusetts, USA
Your script stood out among hundreds of others. What was the inspiration for your story and why did you write a script instead of a short story or a novel? I wrote a script because I love inspirational movies that show lovers creatively overcoming obstacles like physical handicaps, parental opposition, and even physical danger to be together.
How long did it take you to write your script...and what is your writing process? Do you outline...use index cards...white board...or just start with FADE IN? I started Sunbreeze as a treatment in 1980. Three years ago, I came across it in an old trunk. It was as bad as the crinkled paper it was written on. I vowed to write a much better screenplay, one with characters viewers care about and a story that moves audiences to tearful joy at the end. After two years of rewriting Sunbreeze, I hope I have met these goals.
What is your ultimate ambition as a writer? To write screenplays for movie that audiences sparkle to. I want viewers to experience satisfying characters and an absorbing story.
Was your entry at The Wiki Screenplay Contest a full script or “the first ten pages”? Why did you make that choice? I submitted the full script. I want readers to have the opportunity to read it, as the best parts are towards the end.
What’s your all-time favorite movie or television show...and why? My all-time favorite television show is the Spanish series, Velvet. I loved the characters, the historical accuracy, the European setting, and the absorbing plotting. It is a great soap opera.
What advice do you have for writers hoping to win a contest or place as a finalist as you have? I wrote five drafts with good feedback on each. I was determined to write a creditable screenplay. Gradually, I improved, especially when I enlisted my wife to become my editor and creative muse. Her feedback was the best.
What else are you working on that the world needs to know about? I am thinking through an innovative story about a terrorist attack.
