One of Marcia's most celebrated projects is the musical stage play Tell Hell I Ain’t Comin’. This gospel-infused production centers on a devout man who unexpectedly finds himself in Hell. Through a series of emotionally charged encounters with other condemned souls, he learns their stories of struggle, sin, and regret. The musical blends spiritual themes with dark humor, ultimately delivering a message of redemption and faith. It has enjoyed successful stagings in major U.S. cities and remains a signature piece in Samuels's theatrical repertoire.

In Leave Dat Man Alone, Samuels explores the complexities of love, betrayal, and self-worth through the lens of Caribbean-American relationships. The play uses sharp wit and dialogue rooted in Jamaican patois to tell the story of women who confront their emotional entanglements and reclaim their power. It’s both comedic and poignant, balancing cultural specificity with universal emotional truths.
Back Home Where De Banana Tree Grows is a nostalgic, heartfelt play that brings to life the immigrant longing for one’s homeland. Set against the backdrop of a multi-generational Caribbean family in New York, it examines memory, heritage, and the blending of cultures. Through interwoven stories, Samuels paints a loving portrait of the Jamaican diaspora and its enduring connection to the island. |
Her dramatic work Thelma offers a more somber, character-driven experience, inspired by true events. It centers on the life of a woman navigating betrayal, mental illness, and redemption. This play is a stark, emotionally intense piece that showcases Samuels’s ability to write psychologically rich characters and stories grounded in real-world hardship.
Samuels has also written compelling screenplays such as The Story of Dolls, based on a mysterious encounter in a thrift store. This screenplay intertwines themes of memory, trauma, and healing. Six Seconds to a Life Not Lived is another screenplay that explores the ripple effects of a life-altering decision made in an instant. Finally, her podcast A Grain of Sand features her spoken word poetry, tackling topics like faith, mental health, and personal transformation. Through this medium, Samuels continues to share her voice, provoke thought, and uplift her audience across platforms. |
