Where do you live (City, State, or Country)? Warsaw, Poland.
Your script stood out among hundreds of others. What was the inspiration for your story and why did you write a script instead of a short story or a novel? Inspiration arrived from different stages of my life. As a teenager I spent a week in a children’s hospital with an oral infection, and it left a mark—hospital corridors still wander into my dreams. What struck me most was the paradox I witnessed: worried, often terrified parents on one side; on the other, sick and suffering children who were still growing, playing, and discovering. I wanted to tell a story about that contradiction and ask what such moments can teach us. I chose a screenplay because this tension lives in images, silences, and rhythm—things cinema holds side by side more powerfully than prose. How long did it take you to write your script...and what is your writing process? Do you outline...use index cards...white board...or just start with FADE IN? From first idea to the final English draft, it took several months. I wrote the original in Polish. Once I named the core themes, I started with structure: a single place that becomes different worlds depending on who enters—someone’s workplace, a pediatric oncology ward, a playground, a site of first dates and first feelings. I decided early to use flashbacks, then tested whether a short film could support a “double flashback” (characters remembering other characters who are themselves remembering). Only then did the characters arrive fully formed—as if they’d been waiting for the structure to invite them in.
What is your ultimate ambition as a writer? To keep three things intact: curiosity about the world, my individual sensitivity, and a solid work ethic. If I protect those, the rest will take care of itself.
Was your entry at The Wiki Screenplay Contest a full script or “the first ten pages”? Why did you make that choice? A full short script. I chose a short because I intend to direct this story as my debut and I’m currently looking for producers. After that, I’ll be ready for a longer form.
What’s your all-time favorite movie or television show...and why? Many come to mind—Forrest Gump; House of Cards; Breaking Bad; Big Little Lies; Wild—but Rocky is especially close to my heart for its beautifully balanced structure and an endlessly inspiring production story.
What advice do you have for writers hoping to win a contest or place as a finalist as you have? Work the script until you’re genuinely satisfied. Submit only when you’d happily watch—and recommend—the film you’ve just described.
What else are you working on that the world needs to know about? A telenovela for which I’m the head writer—Zaraz Wracam (Polish title)—is currently airing on Polish television. Next, I’m beginning a feature screenplay: a love story set in the world of sailing. Wish me luck.
