Where do you live (City, State, or Country)?
I currently live in Sydney, Australia. Your script stood out among hundreds of others. What was the inspiration for your story and why did you write a script instead of a short story or a novel? My script ‘Coming Out to Grandma’ explores the complex relationships within families. I am inspired to write stories that reflect real-world experiences, holding a mirror up to ourselves. I wanted to infuse humor into what can be a difficult situation at any age – ‘coming out’ to loved ones who might not accept your choices. My intention was to create a funny, relatable story that appeals to anyone keeping a secret but longing to be free of it. My story immerses the audience in its world through visuals, sound, and dialogue. I write scripts because I’m drawn to the emotional power of the visual medium and enjoy the collaborative nature of creating for film and TV. How long did it take you to write your script...and what is your writing process? Do you outline...use index cards...white board...or just start with FADE IN? It took about 3 months from concept to completing the current version of the script. Once I’ve come up with an idea, I jot down notes on the characters, sample scenes, and dialogue. I don’t outline; I typically start with FADE IN and flesh out characters and story beats as I go. After the first draft, I leave it for at least a week, then come back and write the second draft. Usually, at this point, I start asking for feedback before doing the next rewrite. What is your ultimate ambition as a writer? My ultimate ambition is to create memorable stories that resonate with audiences worldwide, the kind of films and television shows people keep talking about long after they've seen them. My preferred focus is on character-driven narratives that uncover relatable truths, blending drama and humor. I enjoy creating these stories across different genres, exploring diverse worlds and their characters. I believe stories can deepen our self- understanding while also entertaining us. Finding representation would also be great! Was your entry at The Wiki Screenplay Contest a full script or “the first ten pages”? Why did you make that choice? I submitted a 16-page short-film script for a comprehensive review to identify areas for improvement and enhance the overall quality. What’s your all-time favorite movie or television show...and why? It’s too hard to pick just one! Some of my all-time favorite television shows include Ted Lasso, Gentleman Jack, Game of Thrones and Downton Abbey. Films include The Shawshank Redemption and The Sound of Music. What they share are layered characters and memorable stories of humanity’s resilience. What advice do you have for writers hoping to win a contest or place as a finalist as you have? Write regularly and create stories that are meaningful to you. Be open to feedback and learn not to take it personally. If this is your passion, don’t give up! What else are you working on that the world needs to know about? I have two feature films that were semi-finalists at the 2026 Wiki Screenplay Contest. - Christmastime Confessions: When a closeted artist is forced to spend Christmas with her devoutly Catholic family, she discovers her ex-girlfriend is now engaged to her brother's best friend, leading to a holiday of rekindled romance and explosive family confessions. - Beyond the Ballet Shoes: A dedicated young ballet dancer must choose between her professional dreams and caring for her brain-injured sister after a tragic car accident kills their parents. I am also currently actioning notes for two feature films that were selected as semi-finalists and quarter-finalists in competitions: ‘Silent Hearts’ (a drama) and ‘The End Game’ (a WWII historical drama).
