Where do you live (City, State, or Country)? Rochester, NY
Your script stood out among hundreds of others. What was the inspiration for your story and why did you write a script instead of a short story or a novel? The script was originally going to be a TV series chronicling the life of a department store. However, I didn’t feel like writing a TV series, so I turned it into a movie instead. I wanted to keep the core idea of the setting intact, so I decided to blend it with a supernatural story (since I love writing Horror scripts) to make something original.
How long did it take you to write your script...and what is your writing process? Do you outline...use index cards...white board...or just start with FADE IN? The script took a total of three years to write and went through many revisions. I don’t use any outlines, index cards, or any special tools, I just get on and write.
What is your ultimate ambition as a writer? My ultimate dream is to make movies that everyone will love and stand the test of time.
Was your entry at The Wiki Screenplay Contest a full script or “the first ten pages”? Why did you make that choice? I chose the full script entry because my script was complete, and I felt I would get more valuable feedback from the judges.
What’s your all-time favorite movie or television show...and why? If you really had to force it down my throat I would say Star Trek: The Original Series. I just love the whole idea around it of everyone working together towards a common goal, exploration, and peace.
What advice do you have for writers hoping to win a contest or place as a finalist as you have? Revise, revise, revise. If you are not happy with it, write it again.
What else are you working on that the world needs to know about? I have ten other stories that I am currently in the revision process. Lilac, The Oppression, Extended Stay, The Tenant, Desolation, Azalea, The Tyrant, In Sync, and Foreclosure. The bulk of these are horror/thriller scripts while The Tyrant is a drama/comedy, and Lilac a drama. I will mention Lilac because it is the first full-length feature script I ever wrote, and I am immensely proud of it. It is about a fox-hybrid high school teen who tries to navigate high school while trying to fit in with others.
