Where do you live (City, State, or Country)? Eugene, Oregon. I grew up in Colorado.
Your script stood out among hundreds of others. What was the inspiration for your story and why did you write a script instead of a short story or a novel? This is the second script I’ve written with Death as a character, but he’s a main character in this. I love France, and this script was a twist on the fantasy of inheriting property in France from a mysterious relative. I am working on the novel adaptation now.
How long did it take you to write your script...and what is your writing process? Do you outline...use index cards...white board...or just start with FADE IN? I started writing it using the book “How to Write a Movie in 21 Days” as a challenge. I also always try to use Truby’s 22 steps as an outline. I finished the first draft within a few weeks, then got feedback, put it away for a few months, then went back and finished it.
What is your ultimate ambition as a writer? To sell a screenplay and get representation. Was your entry at The Wiki Screenplay Contest a full script or “the first ten pages”? Why did you make that choice? I submitted the full script because I wanted feedback.
What’s your all-time favorite movie or television show...and why? Probably the original Jurassic Park movie because it was such a great idea.
What advice do you have for writers hoping to win a contest or place as a finalist as you have? Find, or start, a good writing group. Write consistently.
What else are you working on that the world needs to know about? A feature screenplay that’s allegorical western fantasy. I hope to finish by November. jennfonteyn.com
