Where do you live (City, State, or Country)? Los Angeles, CA
Your script stood out among hundreds of others. What was the inspiration for your story and why did you write a script instead of a short story or a novel? I wrote this with my writing partner. We discussed writing a script that deals with hope and resilience while facing the challenges both environmentally and politically. We placed it in the future as we saw fit to use analogies for global situations today that people can identify with as well.
How long did it take you to write your script...and what is your writing process? Do you outline...use index cards...white board...or just start with FADE IN? We spent over a year to write our script. We outlined our script in sections. Sometimes one idea would create another avenue we didn’t expect. So, we kept our sections in order and it was easy to create a full script when we placed them together. It worked well for us that way.
What is your ultimate ambition as a writer? Our ambition is to create stories that people can relate to and also that holds promise that there is hope, although not always easy to attain, we don’t give up.
Was your entry at The Wiki Screenplay Contest a full script or “the first ten pages”? Why did you make that choice? Our entry was full script. We feel strongly about our script’s message and wanted to know if it was felt by others. So, we decided to go all in and submit our entire script.
What’s your all-time favorite movie or television show...and why? Love Ted Lasso! Mainly because it blends humor and heart so well. Also, not everyone wins, which is part of life itself. However, their stories are about not giving up and yet the characters have strong voices and opinions and some of them are not afraid to offer them.
What advice do you have for writers hoping to win a contest or place as a finalist as you have? Never give up and if you get notes make adjustments without losing your own voice in the story. And, make sure you really have all the formatting correct.
What else are you working on that the world needs to know about? Several things I’ve written on my own. One story is a comedy involving a Deaf female character who strives to make headway in a hearing world. Another I’m working on is a Short. It’s in the Fantasy-Horror genre with some comedic twists thrown in.
