Where do you live (City, State, or Country)? Raleigh, NC
Your script stood out among hundreds of others. What was the inspiration for your story and why did you write a script instead of a short story or a novel? It was inspired by actual events from my childhood. I weaved those memories with fiction to portray some of what occurred while making it more universal/accessible. Had to be a feature script as I love film and would love to add something to the medium.
How long did it take you to write your script...and what is your writing process? Do you outline...use index cards...white board...or just start with FADE IN? I worked on the script off and on for years. This is not typical, but a lot of my time went to other shorter scripts and short films.
What is your ultimate ambition as a writer? Having a feature film made that doesn’t suck.
Was your entry at The Wiki Screenplay Contest a full script or “the first ten pages”? Why did you make that choice? Full script. I knew the entire story for a long time and very much wanted to complete it and get feedback as soon as possible.
What’s your all-time favorite movie or television show...and why? Jaws is one of my favorite horror/monster movies. I love horror films and it holds up after 50 years. Hate to be lame, but The Shawshank Redemption is a favorite as well. Everything about it feels nearly perfect.
What advice do you have for writers hoping to win a contest or place as a finalist as you have? Write as much as possible. Don’t get hung-up on your first script. Keep going as this will only improve your writing. Find other writers for support and feedback.
What else are you working on that the world needs to know about? Going to shoot a short horror/comedy; “Zombie Speed Dating” this February.
