Where do you live (City, State, or Country)? I live in Edgewater, New Jersey
Your script stood out among hundreds of others. What was the inspiration for your story and why did you write a script instead of a short story or a novel? “The Accident” takes inspiration from a few places. First, I was in an accident a few years ago and have anxiety about driving. Recently, I saw a fatal collision at an intersection which turned into the vehicle to express my anxiety and greatest fear.
How long did it take you to write your script...and what is your writing process? Do you outline...use index cards...white board...or just start with FADE IN? I outline the story in google sheets, and like most people I start with an idea then edit and revise. I submit to competitions for feedback and to track the progress of my story telling. I’m completely self taught so I have limited resources and network to help for now. I recently started a Master’s program to improve.
What is your ultimate ambition as a writer? I’d like to win an Oscar.
Was your entry at The Wiki Screenplay Contest a full script or “the first ten pages”? Why did you make that choice? It was a full script, it’s only 6 pages long. I wanted feedback on the story and to see how it would fair in competition.
What’s your all-time favorite movie or television show...and why? I have three: Terminator 2, Blade Runner, and Blade Runner 2049. The idea of what it means to be human mixed with machines is my favorite concept.
What advice do you have for writers hoping to win a contest or place as a finalist as you have? You have to be relentless in your writing and open to feedback. To coin a phrase from ratatouille, “Anyone can write.” The hardest part is putting out there for people to judge, but it’s the only way you’ll really get better. After a few tries you become excited to hear what people think. Just put it out there.
What else are you working on that the world needs to know about? I have a few other scripts in the competition cycle and had my first film produced. It headlined a small film festival in NJ which was cool to be part of. I’m working mostly on shorts right now to refine some of my story telling skills to use in some of my feature projects.
