Where do you live (City, State, or Country)? After years of living in the ‘Peach State’ (Georgia), I now reside in sunny Sarasota, Florida! [United States of America]
Your script stood out among hundreds of others. What was the inspiration for your story and why did you write a script instead of a short story or a novel? The inspiration behind my story derives from two childhood infatuations— space and time travel. They’re the sort of concepts that, if introduced at the right moment, can capture the mind of any inquisitive person!
How long did it take you to write your script...and what is your writing process? Do you outline...use index cards...white board...or just start with FADE IN? It took me about a few months to perfect the script to a point where I felt comfortable with sharing it to a broader audience. In terms of my writing process, I am very nontraditional—it’s how I came into this industry. I do frequent the use of index cards and also more visual aids to help me project the true tone and intent within my script.
What is your ultimate ambition as a writer? My ultimate ambition as a writer is to inspire creativity in every person possible. I firmly believe it is the key to unlocking the boundless potential we all have within ourselves.
Was your entry at The Wiki Screenplay Contest a full script or “the first ten pages”? Why did you make that choice? My entry was the first ten pages of my pilot script. I felt this selection was best suitable because of the pilot's storyline and the immediate impact it makes.
What’s your all-time favorite movie or television show...and why? My favorite all-time movie is hands down Friday Night Lights. It truly captures the essence of what football means to entire cities and it’s communities throughout the United States of America. As a former football player for a historic high school program in the state of Georgia (Gainesville High School) , I felt Friday Night Lights reflected my reality.
What advice do you have for writers hoping to win a contest or place as a finalist as you have? Write what you know or find of true interest and commit! I find that a writer’s confidence is the most powerful tool they can have. When you write through experience or inspiration you spark a confidence that will carry you through challenges found throughout the writing process.
What else are you working on that the world needs to know about? I recently released another half-hour pilot for a dramedy series, Best Buds. It has received great feedback so far, and I’m excited to see it resonate with readers and audiences. I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that I’m also in the outline phase of a feature film (title TBD), which I believe is shaping up to be something remarkable!
