Where do you live (City, State, or Country)? I live in Thousand Oaks, CA.
Your script stood out among hundreds of others. What was the inspiration for your story and why did you write a script instead of a short story or a novel? The story is based on a real life situation brought to me by a friend. When I heard the story and how outlandish and ridiculous it was, we knew we had to get this into a script. Turning this into a screenplay was really our only thought. This is a story that someone has to see to believe.
How long did it take you to write your script...and what is your writing process? Do you outline...use index cards...white board...or just start with FADE IN? The first draft came rather easily as the real story had already taken place, so we got an outline together and just started with fade in. After that it was going back in and switching a few things around to get it where it is now.
What is your ultimate ambition as a writer? I ultimately want to direct my own scripts and have started doing that with some shorts I have written.
Was your entry at The Wiki Screenplay Contest a full script or “the first ten pages”? Why did you make that choice? I entered into the full script contest. I chose this route because I felt I had a really solid script on paper and wanted to get an overall response to the script.
What’s your all-time favorite movie or television show...and why? It’s really tough to pick a favorite. I always tend to watch films by certain writers. I would put William Goldman as one of the all time best, from his novels to his screenplays. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid will always be a film I return to. The dialogue and the relationships between the leads are absolutely brilliant to me.
What advice do you have for writers hoping to win a contest or place as a finalist as you have? I would advise any writer that is looking to win a contest to make sure it’s ready. Get a second or third opinion from trusted sources, but in the end it’s your story. Be true to yourself.
What else are you working on that the world needs to know aboutI have an action film, Stillwater, that has placed high in a number of contests as well as a horror script, Humboldt House, that has also done very well.
